Made Just for Photo Booths, The Cube from DNP

The Cube That Punches Above its Weight for Photo Booths!

Size matters. That is a sign that DNP had in their booth at PPA’s Imaging USA convention last week. It was above their new DNP QW410 printer (affectionately called The Cube) that has been in Europe for a while and was first shown in the US at the IAAPA convention in November 2019. It has been getting buzz for months for its small size and light weight. At 13 pounds, the QW410 is the lightest dye sub since printers like the Sony UPCX-1 weighs 22 lbs. It is about half the size and half the weight of the popular DNP RX1HS. The print times are 19 seconds for a 4×6 and 24 seconds for a 4 ½ x8.

What does “The Cube” bring to the table other than size. It has a 4 ½” wide print head. A very unique size. Not only can it print 4×6, it can also print 4 ½ x 8 for a large strip out of such a small printer. The QW410 printer also has the familiar 2” cut option available for both 4×6 and 4 1/2 x 8. This means new size options like 3-2×4 and 4-2×4 ½. The printer can also cut square prints so 4×4 on 4×6 and 4 ½ x 4 ½ on 4 ½ x 8 are available.

Perforated media will be available in 2-2×6 and 2-2 ½ x 8 later in the year. The paper is in rolls of 150-4×6 and 110-4 ½ x 8. They come 2 to a case. The printer also features an anti-curl option that can be used manually or at the end of the roll of paper that will switch on automatically to reduce the curl in the prints.

The QW410 uses 35% less power than the DNP DS620A and can be used with certain portable battery powered stations. DNP had an Anker and Jackery Explorer 240 at Imaging USA. Depending on how many prints, it can print up to three hours on one battery charge.

Windows and Mac drivers will be available for the QW410. The plan is to put the built in driver into Darkroom Software when the SDK are released with that option. An optional wireless dongle from DNP is coming soon to print from the MacOS and iOS.
