Each Bizan sheet is individually handmade by Japanese artisans at the Awagami mill in Tokushima, Japan. Made from environomentally friendly Kozo (mulberry) and Hemp fibers featuring four naturally deckled edges then dried beneath the rising sun. Moenkopi Bizan represents the ultimate in Japanese craftsmanship. Designed for use with archival ink jet printers, Moenkopi papers have been treated for use with most dye and pigment inks for a sharp image structure but maintain the exquisite feel expected from a fine Japanese Washi paper.
Basis weight: 300 gsm, single-sided.
Moenkopi [moe-in-koe-pee] is not a Japanese name and Moab is not located in Japan, but these papers represent a unique partnership with the Awagami Factory in Tokushima, Japan. Moenkopi is a Native-American name which was used to identify a mudstone layer of rock common in the Moab area. The world-famous Fisher Towers seen in many a John Wayne film, were formed in this strata. These unique towers seem to flow from the earth. It is fitting then that Moenkopi would be
used to define our family of environmentally-friendly Japanese papers made primarily from Kozo (mulberry) fibers.
Note: This is an incredibly expensive handmade sheet. We only sell it in units of one sheet. It also prints softer than any of our other sheets and is best suited for applications which require a more ethereal look. Because of its weight and nature, we only recommend using this in professional grade printers capable of custom platen gap settings. It will require an investment in fine tuning the print quality.
